    TARGET AREA BACKGROUND & PROBLEMS

Shree Akshara Foundation concentrated in 25 rural villages Youth of Haveri District as well in urban . The major source of livelihood of the people in the District is Agriculture, Dairy and Allied activities. Haveri is also known for its backwardness in education and economy. Their economy is subsistence as the natural resources of the District are meagre to support its population. Among the population, women, children and handicapped people are the poorest of the poor. They are purely depending upon their family. Handicapped people lack support from their families as well as from the community. Government schemes reach them seldom. Recent Flood and torrential rain inundated and made a major portion of the land unfertile. This 2019 is really a hard period for these people as they look the government and non-governmental organizations for some kind of support to enable their lives. The total population of Karnataka as of 2011 stood at 61,095,297 as per the provisional results of the Census of India 2011. The sex ratio (i.e., the number of females per thousand males) of population in the State has improved from 973 in the present census. The literacy rate in the State has shown remarkable improvement. This has increased to 75.36% when compared to 66.64% ten years back during 2001 Census.
